The inventive device comprising a container (12) having a lid and containing ion exchange resins. The device also comprises a series of rigid, light and superimposed modules (1 6) that are, for example, cylindrical, stacked one atop the other in the container and interconnected in order to enable water to circulate from one extremity of the container to the other. Each module (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) contains either a cationic resin or an anionic resin retained by a membrane (27d) and an expansion chamber (27e), and the modules are arranged whereby alternating between a cationic resin module and an anionic resin module. One cationic resin module is placed at the bottom of the stack of modules of which there are preferably at least six. This arrangement considerably increases the exchange of ions and, as a result, the performance of the device that enables, with the same volume of resins, the demineralization of 2 to 4 times the volume of water than prior art systems. The invention also offers a larger autonomy, a lower cost and an easier and less troublesome reprocessing. |
