<p>A method and apparatus wherein when packets that have been capsuled and thereafter fragmented are received, a packet transfer can be performed, with less transfer delay, by use of a small scale of hardware. A leading packet and subsequent packets are detected from the received packets that have been capsuled and thereafter fragmented. The inner header of the detected leading packet is stored and thereafter decapsuled. Further, the inner header is modified in accordance with this decapsuling. Moreover, the subsequent packets are decapsuled, and the modified inner header of the leading packet and a fragment offset value established in accordance with the foregoing fragmenting are added to each packet to be outputted.</p> |
