METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR IMAGING A SUBSURFACE FRACTURE

A method and apparatus for imaging subsurface fractures 104 using an ST plan e for quick looks and quality checks at the wellsite. Incident angles of impinging acoustic waves 116 with respect to receivers Rn are estimated from actual and apparent slowness, and the position of the fracture 104 is estimated from the travel time and incident angle .alpha.. The fracture 104 can be imaged by plotting values from the ST plane onto the position of the fracture.
