The device for the sealing of a container (1) with a lid (2) has a sealing mechanism with at least two sealing elements, the movable parts (4,5) of which to effect the sealing are simultaneously moved by means of a locking ring (7). The sealing mechanism is encompassed by a guard ring (8) which is part of the locking ring. The horizontally rotatable locking ring can be rotated pneumatically, hydraulically or electrically. At least one movable part (5) of the sealing mechanism is rotatably fastened on the lid and at least one (4) on the locking ring.
