An automotive air conditioning system has an axial piston compressor (1) linked to a motor via a drive shaft (14) containing a permanent magnet (B) and a pulley wheel. The pulley wheel hub has a magnetic field sensor (24) that registers a change in torque arising from the shaft, pulley wheel or hub. The change in torque is registered and passed to the motor electronic control system (29) and the associated signal converter (28).
