The present invention relates to colchicine derivatives, in particular to th e 3-demethyl and 3-demethylthio-colchicine of the general formula (I) in which X is oxygen or sulfur, a method for the preparation thereof and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. The compounds of formula (I) have muscle relaxing, anti-inflammatory and anti-gout activity.
