Ultrasonic process to detect interface levels between different liquid chemical, pharmaceutical or oil-based substances in single column

A non-contact process determines the interface zone between different layers of fluids in the same column. The process uses an ultrasonic signal converter transmits a signal from above or below into the fluid layers. The upper phase boundary or the upper fluid layer gives an echo with the highest amplitude. The reflected signal echoes differ in time and amplitude to indicate the phase boundaries. An independent claim is included for an assembly for use in the above method, in which the reception amplification is subject to constant variation within a single operating cycle. Each set of reflected signals is checked by the system for the presence of multiple echoes. Calculation of the interface height takes temperature variations into account.
