FIRMWARE DOWNLOAD METHOD, PARTICULARLY USING A MUTUAL STANDARD FOR DOWNLOADING FIRMWARE BETWEEN A HOST AND AN OPTICAL DRIVE

PURPOSE: A firmware download method is provided to use a mutual standard for downloading firmware between a host and an optical drive, thereby more effectively downloading the firmware while exactly informing a user of firmware storage state information on the optical drive. CONSTITUTION: A PC transmits a firmware download start command to an optical drive(300). The PC transmits firmware and a firmware download continue command to the optical drive(301). The PC transmits a firmware download end command to the optical drive(302). The firmware stored in an RAM of the optical drive is stored in a flash memory(303). The PC decides whether the firmware is completely stored in the flash memory(304). If not, firmware storage state information is transmitted(305). The PC decides whether an 'FFFFh' value is received as storage state information of the flash memory(306).
