Method for a forming a search word for searching for an address in the memory of a motor vehicle telephone or navigation system in which letters are input sequentially via an input unit and a loudspeaker is used with a text to speech conversion system to repeat back letters or letter combinations via the loudspeaker. An independent claim is made for an arrangement for controlling a vehicle navigation or phone system using a loud speaker for outputting manually entered letters or letter combinations.
