An infeed unit (20) for sheet-like value documents (14, 14') in a sheet handling apparatus (10), comprising an infeed opening (22) for receiving in the infeed unit (20) a stack (12) of the documents standing on edges of the documents. For the infeed unit swiftly and without intermediary storage be capable of feeding the stack to a handling unit in the sheet handling apparatus it is inter alia suggested that it has a feeding means (38) in the infeed opening (22) for engagement with a lateral face of the stack (12) to feed the stack down to a sheet handling unit (50) in the apparatus (10); and a movable arresting means (28) opposite to the feeding means (38) in the opening and adapted in a first position to form a bottom for the edges of the documents and in a second position to remove said bottom (30) and form a counter support (32) to the stack against the feeding means (38) when the stack is fed down to the sheet handling unit. |
