AUTOMATIC LIGHTING CONTROL FOR COMMUNICATION DEVICES WITH A CAMERA

An automatic lighting control system for communication devices with a camera 3 where the ambient light levels detected by the camera 3 are used to adjust the brightness of the user interfaces, e.g. display 4 and keypad 2. The system contains a monitor circuit 22 which activates and obtains ambient light level values from the camera 3 at a frequency dependent on the rate of change of ambient light.
