The fender consists of a hollow inflatable chamber or bag (1) inside a housing with two shutters (41, 42) that open for the bag to be deployed. The shutters are controlled by an actuating mechanism, and the bag, when inflated, has a height greater than the maximum opening between the shutters, which are hinged to the edges of an aperture in the housing and controlled by a pneumatic cylinder (51) and gears (502). The bag is inflated by a pump (20) or pyrotechnic unit e.g. controlled by a proximity detector, and can be deflated and retracted after being deployed. |
