PURPOSE:To obtain a high-MW copolymer which is noncolored and good in transparency, by using a specified organic peroxide as a polymerization initiator in the copolymerization of a mixture of alpha-methylstyrene, acrylonitrile and monomers copolymerizable therewith. CONSTITUTION:An organic peroxide of formula 1 [wherein R1 and R3 are each 1-5C alkyl, R2 is -(CH2)n- (wherein n is an integer >=1) or -CH2-CH2O-CH2- CH2] is used in the copolymerization of a mixture of alpha-methylstyrene with acrylonitrile and at least one monomer selected from monomers copolymerizable therewith. The amount of the organic peroxide of formula I is about 0.1-3.0wt% based on the total weight of the monomer mixture.
