PURPOSE:To obtain hydroxy mica having high scaliness, safety, and whiteness degree in high yield at relatively low temp. by treating synthetic fluoromica with hot water in aq. NaOH soln. CONSTITUTION:Synthetic fluoromica expressed by the formula (X is at least one kind of ion selected from Na<+>, K<+>, Ca<2+>, Ba<2+>, Rb<2+>, and Sr<2+>; Y is at least one kind of ion selected from Mg<2+>, Fe<2+>, Ni<2+>, Mn<2+>, Al<3+>, Fe<3+> and Li<+>; and Z is at least one kind of ion selected from Al<3+>, Si<4+>, Ge<4+>, Fe<3+>, and B<3+>) is treated hydrothermally at 500-800 deg.C in aq. NaOH soln. contg. 2-4mol NaOH based on the amt. expressed by one formula of the mica.
