FIELD: petroleum processing and petrochemistry. ^ SUBSTANCE: sorption compositions for removing sulfur and sulfur compounds such as oxysulfide and mercaptans from cracked gasoline and diesel fuel are prepared by impregnating sorbent base containing zinc oxide, swollen perlite and alumina with metal promoter such as nickel and/or cobalt, after which metal promoter valence is reduced.
