FIELD: rubber industry. ^ SUBSTANCE: butyl rubber with high average molecular weight is manufactured by bringing C4-C8-monoolefin monomer with C4-C16-multiolefin monomer in aliphatic hydrocarbon diluent and in presence of catalyst mixture composed of about 80 to about 99 mol % dialkylaluminum halide and about 1 to about 20 mol % dialkylaluminum dihalide, and additionally containing 2 to 100 parts water per 1 million parts reaction mixture or 0.01 to 10 parts alumoxan per 1 million parts reaction mixture. ^ EFFECT: enhanced process efficiency and simplified procedure. ^ 12 cl, 5 ex
