PURPOSE: A non-contact IC card reading system and method is provided to convert a power saving mode into an active mode by sensing approach of the IC card though a precision of parts is low or a temperature is varied. CONSTITUTION: The system comprises a wakeup signal generator(202), a controller(204), a modulator(208), a resonance circuit(210), an antenna(212), a wave former(214), an integrator(216), an AD converter(218), a demodulator(220), and a clock signal generator(206). The controller(204) receives a wakeup pulse signal, generates an approach sensing signal, checks whether the IC card approaches, and converts a power saving mode into an active mode or vice versa. The modulator(208) modulates the approach sensing signal. The resonance circuit(210) amplifies and resonates of the modulated approach sensing signal. The antenna(212) receives the approach sensing signal varied according as the IC card approaches. The wave former(214) forms a wave of the approach sensing signal transmitted by the antenna. The integrator(216) integrates the approach sensing signal transmitted by the wave former(214). The demodulator(220) demodulates the signal transmitted by the IC card.
