NAVIGATION SYSTEM HAVING REDUCED SIZE AND IMPROVED DATA PROCESSING SPEED AND METHOD FOR STORING MAP DATA

PURPOSE: A navigation system having a reduced size and an improved data processing speed and a method for storing map data thereof are provided to improve a processing speed by storing the map data into a flash memory. CONSTITUTION: A power supply(10) is used for converting a vehicle battery in order to supply power to each component. A GPS module(20) is used for producing a present position by using position information of a GPS satellite. A first flash memory(30) is used for storing application programs necessary for Window environment or Linux environment for navigation system. An SDRAM(40) is used for storing navigation functions and various functions. An IR receiver(50) is used for receiving and analyzing infrared wireless control codes for controlling the various functions. A microprocessor(60) is used for processing all operations. A video DAC(70) is used for processing digital video signals of the microprocessor as composite video signals and converting the processed signals to analog signals. An audio DAC(80) is used for converting digital audio signals of the microprocessor to analog audio signals. A second flash memory(100) is used for storing map information data as a file and updating the map data stored through a driver's PC.
