PURPOSE: A muffler for reducing back pressure is provided to improve noise by controlling an area through which the exhaust gas passes in generating engine booming by mounting a movable opening and closing blade around an outlet pipe hole and to decrease back pressure by controlling the opening degree of a valve for high speed and high load. CONSTITUTION: A muffler for reducing back pressure is divided into plural closed spaces by plural partitions. The muffler sucks in the exhaust gas from an engine through an inlet pipe(7) having a hole and discharges the gas by a direction switch pipe(8) attached with a variable valve(10) and an outlet pipe having a hole(9a). The muffler is composed of a variable valve opening and closing unit for regulating the opening and closing degree of the variable valve; an opening and closing blade operating unit(12) for closing gradually the hole by moving an opening and closing blade(21); and an ECU(Electronic Control Unit,11) for measuring RPM(Revolution Per Minute) of a vehicle engine and the opening degree of a throttle and controlling the opening and closing degree of the opening and closing blade of the opening and closing blade operating unit and the variable valve of the variable valve opening and closing unit according to the amount of exhaust gas.
