PURPOSE: Provided are a novel hetero ring-containing iridium complex, an organic electroluminescent material comprising the complex which shows excellent luminescence characteristics at a range from green to blue, and an organic electroluminescent device using the material which has a high efficiency and a long lifetime. CONSTITUTION: The hetero ring (having at least one halogen, nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atom as a ring member)-containing iridium complex is represented by the formula 1, wherein R1 is a low molecular weight alkyl group, a phenyl group or a substituted phenyl group; R2 and R3 are identical or different each other and are an alkyl group, an alkyloxy group or a cyano group; n1 is 2 and n2 is 1, or n1 is 3 and n2 is 0; and n3 and n4 are independently an integer of 0-4.
