PURPOSE: A device and a method for mixing a background sound source of a portable digital audio apparatus with an external input audio signal are provided to mix an external audio signal inputted through a microphone with a background sound source selected by a user, thereby varying usage purposes of the digital audio apparatus. CONSTITUTION: A key input unit(110) outputs menu selection data and background sound source selection data. A display(115) displays various menu data and operational states. A controller(120) controls a reproduction and an outputting of a selected background sound source, and generates a control signal for mixing the background sound source with an external input audio signal to output the control signal. A data storage(125) outputs the selected background sound source, and stores data mixed with the sound source and the signal. A CODEC(130) converts the digital-type sound source into an analog sound source, and outputs the analog sound source. A mixing controller(135) generates an operation control signal for a mixing operation, and controls a storing of the external input audio signal. A mixer(140) mixes the converted background sound source with the audio signal.
