Polymer lens manufacturing apparatus has adjustable moulding shell holders and articulated supports

The apparatus consists of first (12) and second moulding shells with holders (6) to retain them in predetermined positions in relation to one another, and supports (1, 2) for the holders that are articulated relative to one another and can be moved between open and closed positions. In the open position the first moulding shell is filled with a predetermined quantity of a polymerizable material, and in the closed position the second shell is placed over the first to give the material the required shape for the lens. The relative movement of the supports is produced by a gear mechanism linked to a motor or a rack and power cylinder.
