Production of trioxane by trimerization of formaldehyde in aqueous acid solution followed by separation of trioxane from a crude trioxane product mixture of trioxane, water and formaldehyde comprises: distillation of the crude trioxane; crystallization of the trioxane and; separation from the mother liquor followed by melting and distillation of other byproducts. A process for the production of trioxane by trimerization of formaldehyde in aqueous acid solution followed by separation of trioxane from a crude trioxane product mixture of trioxane, water and formaldehyde comprises: (a) distillation of the crude trioxane; (b) crystallization of the trioxane and; (c) separation from the mother liquor followed by; (d) melting and; (e) distillation of other byproducts.
