SYNTHESIS OF ALKALI METAL FERRATE AND ALKALINE EARTH METAL FERRATE USING PERSULFATE, POTASH AND FERRIC COMPOUND

PURPOSE: Provided is a method for synthesizing alkali metal ferrate and alkaline earth metal ferrate by using non-toxic raw materials such as ferric(3+) compound, persulfate and potash(KOH). CONSTITUTION: The alkali metal ferrate and alkaline earth metal ferrate are expressed by the formula, MFeO4 or M(Fe,X)O4, wherein M is alkali metals such as Li, Na and K, or alkaline earth metals such as Mg, Ca and Ba, and X is Al, Si, P, S, Cl, Mo, etc. The ferrate is synthesized by the following steps of: (i) mixing ferric compound such as ferric salt, goethite(α-FeOOH) or hematite(α-Fe2O3),and 0.5-10wt.%(based on the ferric compound) of potash; (ii) heating mixtures for 1-10hrs at 250-550deg.C; (iii) optionally adding 1-15wt.%(based on the ferric compound) of persulfate such as sodium persulfate, potassium persulfate or ammonium persulfate to mixtures; (iv) heating reactants obtained from the step (ii) or step (iii) at 375-500deg.C for 1-5hrs.
