Exhaust gas purified includes a particle filter (1) set half way along the exhaust pipe, a filter regenerator which burns and eliminates the trapped particles, and a heat absorption zone (4) with a greater thermal capacity than other parts of the filter, situated at its outlet end and designed to dissipate the heat created by combustion of the particles, avoiding overheating of the filter. The filter is of monolithic construction with a number of cells (12) separated by porous walls (11) and plugged alternately at their inlet or outlet ends, the plugs (13) being deeper at the outlet ends in the heat absorption zone.
