<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording medium transfer device having a cleaner portion constantly checking stains on a charged belt and removing the stains, unerringly removing stains of the charged belt and always maintaining the amount of charge of the charged belt at a fixed value. <P>SOLUTION: The charged belt 1 is given an electric charge by a charged roller 4, electrostatically attracts a recording medium and transfers to below a print head 8. A signal from a surface potential sensor 7 measuring the potential of the surface potential of the charged belt 1 is sent to a control board 6, and a control signal controlling the surface potential of the charge belt 1 is outputted to a power board 5. When the surface potential sensor 7 judges that the charged belt 1 bears stains and a cleaning cassette 9 is mounted, the charged belt 1 rotates and an ink, dust, paper powder and the like on the charged belt 1 are wiped by a cleaner's surface.
