<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module capable of being made low in cost. <P>SOLUTION: An optical fiber (2) is freely inserted into and extracted from an optical module (1). The optical module (1) is provided with a board (10) that has a hole (11) to which the optical fiber (2) is to be inserted, a flexible printed board (13) and an optical element (12). The flexible printed board (13) includes a base material (14) to which an opening section (20) is provided at the position where the hole (11) is faced, a wiring film (15) which is arranged at least one side of the base material (14) and a connecting section (21) which is arranged on the opening section (20) so that a portion of the wiring film (15) is exposed. The flexible printed board (13) is arranged at one surface side of the board (10).
