<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make sheet replacement for a sheet feed means surely performed, in an image forming apparatus that performs switching to a speed mode corresponding to a given printing instruction, conveys a sheet fed from a sheet feed means in the speed mode, and forms an image corresponding to the printing instruction onto the sheet. <P>SOLUTION: In the case that the previous printing instruction is an instruction, for instance, to form an image onto regular paper, a sheet is conveyed in a normal speed mode and the image is formed on the sheet. Conversely, in the case that the next printing instruction is an instruction to form an image onto cardboard, a sheet is conveyed in a low speed mode and the image is formed on the sheet. That means, if a printing process is performed based on the next printing instruction following the previous printing instruction, an image corresponding to the second printing instruction is formed on regular paper.
