PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably manufacture a high-density coating type magnetic recording medium of high quality with reduced noise with a high operation rate by stabilizing grinding force of a diamond wheel grinding a magnetic layer of a rolled web of a magnetic tape. SOLUTION: In a grinding process for continuously grinding the carried magnetic layer of the rolled web 20 of the magnetic tape with the diamond wheel 82, a grinding wheel surface 83 of the diamond wheel 82 is cleaned by a rotary brush 84 provided in the diamond wheel 82.
