<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To switch the amplitude of a superimposed high frequency signal according to the identified type of an optical recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: When a semiconductor laser 71 mounted on a reproducing device 1 for reproducing an information signal by irradiating an optical disk 2 with a laser beam is driven, the type of the optical disk 2 is identified, the amplitude of a high frequency signal to be superimposed, and the high frequency signal is superimposed on a driving signal for driving the semiconductor laser 71.
