PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing ethylbenzene, comprising transalkylating benzene with polyethylbenzene in the presence of a solid acid catalyst, by which the reaction rate of the polyethylenebenzene is improved. SOLUTION: This method for producing the ethylbenzene, comprising transalkylating the benzene with the polyethylbenzene in the presence of a catalyst, is characterized by using a solid acid catalyst as the catalyst and performing the reaction in the presence of a diphenylethane compound in an amount of 0.3 to 5 wt. % based on the total amount of the polyethylbenzene and the benzene.
