PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an easy and highly effective method for reducing and removing an active metal derived from a homogeneous transition metal catalyst and contained in such a product as a high polymer synthesized by using the homogeneous transition metal catalyst containing such a metal as ruthenium etc. and to provide an agent which is effective in removing the metal by adsorption. SOLUTION: The method is to remove a metal from a product synthesized using a homogeneous transition metal catalyst by filtrating a metal after treating a reaction solution by a high pressure hydrogen.
