PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit wash operation, etc. from stopping in a halfway condition when a lid cannot be unlocked in the middle of the operation in a washing machine in which the lid is locked in order to prevent the top lid from being opened when the drum is rotated and the lid is automatically unlocked when the rotation of the drum is stopped. SOLUTION: When the lid is not unlocked although a lid unlocking operation is automatically executed in the middle of the operation, a flag F1 is set to continue the operation (S32-S34). In subsequent operation, the lid unlocking operation is not performed when the flag F1 is set (YES in S31), when the operation is finished or a user presses a lid opening key, the lid unlocking operation is again tried, an error alarm is given when the lid cannot be unlocked (S37-S39), and operation is finished. On the other hand, when a lid locking operation cannot be performed under operation, safety is taken into consideration and the operation is stopped to give an error alarm (S24-S26).
