PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective process for isolating statin compounds from an aqueous fermentation broth, specifically, a process for purifying pravastatin, compactin and lovastatin at an industrial production scale without requiring separation by chromatography. SOLUTION: The process for isolating and purifying pravastatin or its pharmaceutically permissible salts comprises a step for extracting the pravastatin, by using an organic solvent, from a fermentation broth containing the pravastatin produced by microorganisms, wherein an organic solvent having the formula: CH3CO2R (wherein, R is a 3-4C alkyl) is used in the extraction step.
