The unit (1) to reform a material containing carbon and hydrogen and especially in an auto thermal process, e.g. benzene and diesel fuels, has a catalyst on a carrier structure. The carrier structure (2) has an extension (3) after it, in the flow direction, which increases the flow pressure loss in proportion to the increasing flow speed. The extension, which can be in a variety of shapes, acts on the center of the flow.
