The method involves defining a section of a signature corresponding to an imaging format of an imaging unit as a function of geometric parameters of an image area. The section of the signature is processed into a raster image by a raster image processor. The geometric parameters are modified by shifting a mask that is used for distinguishing between imageable and non-imageable regions based on the imaging format.
