<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To present information about merchandise to users when the merchandise is provided using a device such as a vending machine. <P>SOLUTION: A merchandise providing system 1 causes a vending machine 10 which sells merchandise with a noncontact IC chip 18 thereon to read identification information stored on the noncontact IC chip 18 of the next merchandise to be sold, as to the kind of merchandise selected by the user. Merchandise characteristic data obtained from a storage device 12 or a merchandise characteristic data server 20 are displayed on a display 14. A user of the vending machine 10 can check information about the quality of the merchandise which he/she is to purchase.
