PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoelectric conversion material containing a half-Heusler compound as a main phase, having high Seebeck coefficient and low resistivity, sufficiently reduced thermal conductivity, and large dimensionless performance index ZT. SOLUTION: The material is characterized by having as a main phase with an MgAgAs type crystal structure represented by the formula (Ti<SB>a1</SB>Zn<SB>b1</SB>Hf<SB>c1</SB>)<SB>x</SB>Ni<SB>y</SB>Sn<SB>100-x-y</SB>or (Ln<SB>d</SB>(Ti<SB>a2</SB>Zn<SB>b2</SB>Hf<SB>c2</SB>)<SB>1-d</SB>)<SB>x</SB>Ni<SB>y</SB>Sn<SB>100-x-y</SB>, wherein 0<a1<1, 0<b1<1, 0<c1<1, a1+b1+c1=1, 30≤x≤35, 30≤y≤35, Ln is at least one species which is selected from a group consists of Y and rare earth elements, 0≤a2≤1, 0≤b2≤1, 0≤c2≤1, a2+b2+c2=1, and 0<d≤0.3.
