PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet size sensing device capable of registering a paper sheet in accordance with its resolution, precluding missensing of the sheet size, and decreasing wasteful copying, and provide an image forming apparatus equipped with the sheet size sensing device. SOLUTION: The sheet size sensing device is equipped with size sensing means 31 and 32 capable of measuring the main scanning direction size and/or the sub scanning direction size of the placed sheet P in steps or steplessly, an indication input means 80 to input and display the sheet size, and a sheet information storing means 103 to store the sheet size, whereby the the sheet size newly input is registered in the sheet information storing means 103 only in case the difference in the main scanning direction size and/or the sub scanning direction size between the registered sheet and the sheet newly input is equal to or more than the preset thresholdα/β.
