A belt filter press expels juice from fruit or vegetable and receives a continual pumped (14) feed of crushed produce. In a first process regulation stage the pump has sensors monitoring the actual quantity of produce received. Further sensors monitor the actual quantity of juice surrendered at the discharge point (16). A comparison is made of the actual value discharged with a target value (S1) and the pump speed is adjusted accordingly. In a second process regulation monitors the height and pressure of incoming crushed fruit (15), which is compared with a second target value (S2) and the press drum (12) motor (13) speed is adjusted accordingly.
