<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress power consumption in a power saving mode more in an image reading apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: An optical sensor is mounted in a scanner body 10 provided with an original platen having a placing surface 9 for placing an original thereon. An external optical sensor 100 for detecting external light that is made incident on the inside of the scanner body 10 from the outside of the scanner body 10 through the mounting surface 9 is provided in the scanner body 10, apart from a linear CCD 27 for receiving reflected light from the original on the placing surface 9 that receives light generated from a light source 23 and converting the reflected light into an electrical signal. A control part 45 in the scanner body 10 releases the power saving mode on the basis of a detection signal value from the external optical sensor 100. In addition, the control part 45 stops feeding the power to the light source 23 and the linear CCD 27 when shifting to the power saving mode. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
