<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method through which contents can be selected and provided while lessening the burden on a user. <P>SOLUTION: A control object device is determined based on contents identification information, control information corresponding to the control object device thus determined is generated and outputted to a remote controller, for example, and device control is effected based on a control signal from the remote controller. A user can output the contents and can view and listen to the contents without requiring a control device necessary for outputting the contents, channel operation for the control device, operation for searching the storage position of the contents, and the like, at all.
