PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out transmission and receiving of a video mail at low cost and at a high transmission rate. SOLUTION: In a file server 4, a notification mail with a small capacity for notifying the presence of a video mail transmitted by a first portable terminal 1 is transmitted to a second portable terminal 7 thorough a portable telephone network as a communication line with a narrow band. The second portable terminal 7 accesses the file server 4 according to the notification mail and down-loads the video mail from the file server 4 through a WLAN network as a communication line with a wide band.
