PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a video display apparatus for automatically avoiding baking of display screen when there is a danger of baking of the display screen by detecting white noise and a state of a still picture of a received video signal and a degree of baking danger signal. SOLUTION: A weak electric field detection circuit 10 detects a noise component, a still picture detection discrimination circuit 11 discriminates a state of a still picture, a baking danger signal detection circuit 14 detects a degree of danger of baking of a display screen, a timer 16 measures a consecutive time of the states and communicates with a baking control preventing unit 15 to inform thereof about the respective results, the unit 15 starts operation of a display baking preventing circuit 17 when discriminating that a degree of the baking danger is high, and informs a microcomputer 19 about a control state of the display baking preventing circuit 17.
