PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extremely easily measure the loss of an optical fiber such as transmission loss in a plurality of wavelength bands in a short time. SOLUTION: In this method of measuring the loss of the optical fiber, a multiplexer/demultiplexer 3 having wavelength dependency is connected to one end of the optical fiber 1 that is a measuring object, OTDR circuits 4a and 4b are connected to the multiplexer/demultiplexer 3, and inspection lights of wavelengthsλ1 andλ2 which belong to different wavelength bands are emitted from the OTDR circuits 4a and 4b. The scattered light and reflected light returned to the incident ends are demultiplexed to the wavelengthsλ1 andλ2 by the multiplexer/demultiplexer 3, and transmitted to the OTDR circuits 4a and 4b, respectively. The scattered light and reflected light are converted to electric signals in the OTDR circuits 4a and 4b to display a waveform showing the relation between propagation time and light receiving power, and the loss of the optical fiber 1 is determined from this display.
