A folding pocket knife with one handed operation has a reversible battery driven servo drive with a worm gear (7) meshing with a gear on the inner end of the knife blade. Batteries are located in the handle in sprung mounts accessed via removable cover plates. The servo motor is controlled by a reversible switch (4) and opens and closes the blade at a safe controlled rate. The knife can be operated manually by rolling the worm gear with the thumb.
