PURPOSE: An automatic scanning method for a scanner or a multifunction device, a device thereof, and a computer-readable recording medium storing a computer program are provided to enable a user not familiar with the device to easily perform scanning and offer scanning convenience through diverse scanning mode settings by automatically scanning a document only if the document is put on the scanning device. CONSTITUTION: A sensing part(90) senses that an event accompanied with document scanning is generated and outputs a sensed result. A scanning request(92) checker checks that the user requests the scanning by responding to the sensed result and outputs a checked result. A driving/scanning part(94) scans the document by being driven in response to the sensed result or the checked result.
