PURPOSE: An in-plane switching mode LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to reduce the black level, thereby enhancing the contrast ratio by forming a light-shielding layer is larger than a common electrode or a pixel electrode in a pattern width. CONSTITUTION: The first substrate(110) is opposite to the second substrate(120). A plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines cross over to designate a plurality of pixel cell regions. A plurality of light-shielding layers(150) is formed in the pixel cell regions. A plurality of common electrodes(106) and a plurality of pixel electrodes(107) are formed on the light-shielding layers respectively. The common electrodes and the pixel electrodes generate the electric field parallel to the substrate. The light-shielding layer is larger than the common electrode or the pixel electrode in a pattern width, thereby blocking the light at the edges of the common electrodes or the pixel electrodes.
