PURPOSE:To reduce the tension required to cut optical fibers and to improve the yield of the cutting by vibrating respective optical fibers reciprocally by a vibration rod. CONSTITUTION:While the multifiber coated optical fibers 1 is fixed, a cutter 4 is elevated at right angles to the lengthwise direction of optical fibers 11, 11... to make cuts in the respective peripheral surfaces of the respective optical fibers 11, 11... and then the cutter 4 is moved down and back in the same direction. Then the respective optical fibers 11, 11... are vibrated by the vibration rod 6 and cut. The installation position of the vibration rod 6 is so determined that the distance L from the center of its section to the tip end surface 5 of a connector is <=5mm; and a vibrator 61 which is connected below the vibration rod 6 vibrates with a voltage supplied from an oscillator to vibrate the optical fibers 11, 11... mechanically and reciprocally. Consequently, the tension required for the cutting is reduced and the reliability of the fixation part of the respective optical fibers 11, 11... can be improved. |
