摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To connect, through an intermediate optical fiber, a single mode optical fiber and a dispersion compensating optical fiber having greatly different mode field diameters, by selectively setting an optimum condition between respective optical fibers. <P>SOLUTION: An intermediate optical fiber 3 having a prescribed mode field diameter is used for a specific dispersion compensating optical fiber 1 having at least double clads. One end of the intermediate optical fiber 3 and the dispersion compensating optical fiber 1 are connected by a physical coupling part 4 (optical connector). The intermediate optical fiber 3 and the single mode optical fiber 2 are connected by a fusion splicing part 5 or physical coupling parts 6, 6' (optical connectors) of which the mode field diameters are matched. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
